Winter Storm Safety Information

January 22, 2026

A very serious winter storm is approaching the region. While Clinton is on the outer perimeter of the system, current projections show the potential for up to ½ inch of ice, which could make travel extremely dangerous and lead to downed trees, damaged powerlines, and extended power outages across the area.

Residents are urged to take this storm seriously and prepare now.

Medical Device Charging Support
If you or a loved one relies on life-saving medical equipment that requires electricity and experiences a power outage, Clinton fire stations will be available to assist with charging those devices. This service is provided for charging assistance only and does not include prolonged or overnight stays. The Clinton Police Department lobby also has a charging port available for public use.

Generator Safety
If you use a generator during an outage, never operate generators in garages or enclosed spaces. Generators should be placed a safe distance away from the home to prevent carbon monoxide exposure. Always use proper generator-rated extension cords, and look for UL certification labels to ensure safety and compatibility.

Heating Safety
Residents are reminded not to use propane heaters, grills, or any propane appliances inside the home. Outdoor cooking equipment and heaters should never be used indoors, as they pose serious fire and carbon monoxide risks.

Power Outages and Utility Information
Power outages are not the responsibility of the City of Clinton. This storm is expected to impact large portions of Mississippi, and outages may occur outside the city as well as within it. To report a power outage or receive outage updates, residents should contact Entergy Mississippi at 1-800-968-8243. If you smell gas or experience any gas-related issues, contact Atmos Energy at 866-322-8667 immediately.

Stay Informed
Residents are encouraged to sign up for emergency text alerts by texting the word Clinton to 91896 to receive important updates before, during, and after the storm.

Safety Reminder
Ice conditions can make roads impassable and delay emergency response. Residents are strongly encouraged to stay home, avoid unnecessary travel, and remain off the roads unless absolutely necessary.

The safety of our community is the top priority. Please prepare now, check on neighbors, and take all precautions to protect your household during this winter storm.
