Clinton’s Director of Parks & Recreation, Courtney Nunn, Inducted into EMCC Sports Hall of Fame
Clinton’s Director of Parks & Recreation, Courtney Nunn, was one of five new members inducted into the East Mississippi Community College’s Sports Hall of Fame last night at a reception held on the campus of EMCC. Nunn was a two-time MACJC All-State softball pitcher for EMCC Sports Hall of Famer Kate Neely McCarty’s Lady Lions. Nunn averaged a strikeout per inning over her two EMCC seasons by fanning 373 batters and posting 26 career wins. The right-hander collected 2010 NJCAA All-Region 23 honors as a sophomore after recording 16 wins and 217 strikeouts. Nunn continued her collegiate playing career at MC, where she developed into the 2012 American Southwest Conference Pitcher of the Year after compiling an 11-5 record and 1.52 earned run average with 84 strikeouts. The Louisiana native posted a career mark of 16-7 with 120 strikeouts for the Lady Choctaws.
Nunn earned her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from MC and would later further her education at the University of Louisiana at Monroe by working on her master’s degree in exercise science while specializing in the areas of sports fitness and recreation management. Nunn also enjoyed success in the collegiate coaching ranks by spending four seasons (2013-16) as an assistant softball coach at East Central Community College in Decatur. She was instrumental as the pitching coach for the Lady Warriors’ 2015 NJCAA Division II national runners-up team.
Nunn then seemingly found her career niche by utilizing her college education and benefitting from her previous 13-year stint (2004-17) as an umpire and administrative assistant at the Jackson Parish Recreation Department in her hometown of Jonesboro, La. Nunn’s passion for umpiring reached a new pinnacle when she was selected to work the 2023 Little League Senior Softball World Series in Sussex County, Delaware this past summer.
That previously acquired knowledge and gained working experience helped lead her to the Clinton (MS) Parks & Recreation Department in 2019. After initially serving as the department’s recreation director, Nunn was elevated to the Director of Parks and Recreation position in 2022. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Mississippi Recreation and Parks Association.
