Winter Weather Update and Preparedness Reminder

January 20, 2026

According to national weather forecasts, a winter storm is expected to impact the area beginning Saturday evening and continuing into Sunday. Current projections indicate overnight lows in the teens and a 90 percent chance of precipitation. Conditions are expected to begin declining Friday night and continue throughout the day Saturday.

While exact details regarding precipitation type and accumulation are still developing, potential impacts may include hazardous travel conditions, downed trees, and power outages. Because this system is still several days away, forecasts may change. Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring updated weather information as the weekend approaches.

How to Prepare Now

Residents are urged to take steps now to prepare for potential winter weather impacts. This includes stocking up on food, water, and other essential supplies, wrapping exposed pipes, and filling up gas tanks ahead of time. Residents should also check on elderly and vulnerable family members, neighbors, and friends, and ensure pets have a warm, safe place indoors, as dogs and cats should not be left outside in freezing temperatures.

During periods of freezing temperatures, residents are encouraged to allow water faucets to drip slowly to help prevent broken pipes and protect the city’s water system. Travel should be avoided during dangerous conditions, particularly on frozen roadways, and residents are asked to leave roads clear for emergency personnel and first responders.

If downed power lines are encountered, residents should steer clear and report them immediately to Entergy at 1-800-ENTERGY (1-800-368-3749) or call 911.

The City of Clinton will continue to share updates as more information becomes available. Taking proactive steps now and remaining weather-aware throughout the weekend will help keep residents and the community safe.
