The City of Clinton is making significant progress on the largest sports lighting retrofit and infrastructure upgrade in Mississippi history. The sweeping improvements at Traceway Park and along Pinehaven Drive mark a bold investment in recreational and community infrastructure, aimed at delivering long-term savings and enhanced public safety.
Funded through bond resources, the project includes the full replacement of lighting systems on 24 soccer and baseball fields, as well as the addition of new light poles from Pinehaven Drive to Arrow Drive. In a move projected to save the City approximately $400,000 annually, Clinton is also purchasing the existing light poles from Entergy.

78% of pole bases (55 total) have been drilled, poured, and installed.
61% of new light poles (43 total) are already in place.
Installation of underground infrastructure is currently underway.
Pinehaven Drive Expansion
Final materials for Pinehaven lighting are scheduled to arrive this month.
Mayor Phil Fisher approved final pole locations last week.
Crews will begin installing underground infrastructure and foundations next week.
Project Features and Benefits:
Largest LED Field Conversion in Mississippi: 24 athletic fields are currently being outfitted with energy-efficient LED lighting systems.
Improved Safety & Longevity: Aging wooden poles are being replaced with modern, durable steel alternatives.
Enhanced Community Safety: Lighting extension along Pinehaven Drive will improve visibility for both drivers and pedestrians.
Cost Savings & Efficiency: LED lighting and pole acquisition from Entergy will drastically reduce energy and maintenance costs.
Better Nighttime Visibility: Upgrades will deliver brighter, more uniform illumination, improving experiences for athletes and visitors.
Minimized Light Pollution: Advanced lighting fixtures are designed to reduce glare and focus light precisely on playing areas.
“This project is about more than just upgrading our facilities; it’s about investing in our community,” said Mayor Phil Fisher. “By utilizing bond money and making smart, cost-saving decisions like purchasing the poles from Entergy, we’re ensuring that Clinton remains a leader in recreational opportunities while being fiscally responsible. The addition of lighting along Pinehaven Drive to Arrow Drive also highlights our commitment to enhancing safety and accessibility across the city.”
Construction continues to advance on schedule, and the City anticipates noticeable improvements in both park usability and cost-efficiency upon completion.
