City Honors Mayor Phil Fisher and Two Aldermen for Their Years of Service

June 18, 2025

At the June 17 Board of Aldermen meeting, the City of Clinton came together to recognize and celebrate the dedicated service of three long-standing public officials—Mayor Phil Fisher, Ward 2 Alderman Jim Martin, and Alderman-at-Large Ricki Garrett.

The meeting, filled with heartfelt moments and reflections, marked the final official gathering for these three leaders as their terms come to a close. Each was recognized for their unique contributions to the city and their unwavering commitment to public service.

State Representative Clay Mansell presented a formal proclamation honoring Mayor Fisher’s distinguished tenure. In a symbolic gesture of appreciation, Rep. Mansell also presented the mayor with a United States flag that had been flown over the Mississippi State Capitol. The gesture underscored the significance of Fisher’s contributions—not only to Clinton but to the broader state community as well.

In one of the evening’s most memorable moments, incoming mayor and current City Attorney Will Purdie read a resolution passed by the Board of Aldermen officially renaming the Olde Towne Depot to the Phillip R. Fisher Olde Towne Depot. The renaming honors Mayor Fisher’s pivotal role in the revitalization of Olde Towne and his years of commitment to making the Depot a hub for community activity and tourism.

Ward 2 Alderman Jim Martin was recognized for his steadfast leadership and advocacy for his constituents, while Alderman-at-Large Ricki Garrett, who joined the meeting via Zoom, was also honored for her thoughtful representation and passionate service on behalf of all Clinton residents.

As the city prepares to welcome new leadership, the June 17 meeting served as a fitting tribute—a moment to express gratitude, reflect on accomplishments, and mark the end of an era in Clinton’s government history.
