Clinton Parks and Recreation Staff Honored with Multiple State Awards

March 11, 2026

The City of Clinton was well represented at the Mississippi Recreation and Park Association Annual Conference held last week in Biloxi, where our Parks and Recreation and Therapeutic Recreation teams received several statewide honors recognizing the impact of their programs and events.

Clinton’s Therapeutic Recreation Department received the Therapeutic Recreation Special Event Award for the 2025 Living Young Spirit Month and an Arts, Humanities and Programming Award of Merit for the Living Young Line Dancing series. The Parks and Recreation Department was also recognized with a Special Event Award of Merit for Red, White and Blue Fest.

In addition to program awards, Clinton staff were recognized for their leadership within the association. Chandra Fontenot received the inaugural Deb A. Helms Commitment to Professionalism Award and recently completed her term as Past President of the Mississippi Recreation and Park Association, where she continues to serve as chairperson of the Bylaws Committee. Courtney Nunn served as the 2025 to 2026 President of MRPA and officially passed the gavel to the incoming president during the conference. She will continue serving on the Board of Directors as Immediate Past President.

Clinton leaders also contributed to the conference by sharing their expertise with parks and recreation professionals from across the state. Alderman Robert Chapman presented on communication, leadership and responsibility, Chandra Fontenot presented on advancing senior adult programming, and Courtney Nunn presented on fun focused leagues.

Congratulations to everyone who represented Clinton so well.
