The City of Clinton Public Works Department has been recognized with the Atmos Energy Gold Cup Award for its outstanding commitment to safe digging practices and protecting underground utilities.

The award was presented by Bobby Morgan of Atmos Energy during the August 4 meeting of the Clinton Board of Aldermen in recognition of National 811 Call Before You Dig Day, observed annually on August 11.

The Atmos Energy Gold Cup Award honors municipalities across the company’s eight-state operating territory that demonstrate a consistent commitment to calling 811 before excavation begins. This simple but critical step helps identify underground utility lines before digging starts, preventing damage to essential infrastructure, reducing service interruptions, and protecting workers and the public.

Atmos Energy serves 110 communities throughout Mississippi, and the City of Clinton was one of only three municipalities in the state selected to receive this year’s award.

Whether repairing water lines, installing infrastructure, or performing routine maintenance, the City’s Public Works Department consistently follows industry best practices by contacting 811 before any excavation project begins. Their commitment to safety helps prevent damage to underground natural gas lines, water and sewer infrastructure, electrical utilities, and telecommunications systems.

The City of Clinton is proud of its Public Works Department for earning this recognition and for demonstrating that safety is not just a requirement, but a daily commitment.
