December 11, 2025

The City of Clinton hosted a special ceremony on Tuesday, December 9, to officially dedicate the Philip R. Fisher Olde Towne Depot, honoring former Mayor Philip R. Fisher for his nearly 50 years of distinguished public service.

By a formal resolution of theayor and Board of Aldermen, the Olde Towne Depot was selected as the site to bear Mayor Fisher’s name. The building holds particular significance, as Mayor Fisher was instrumental in its creation and a strong advocate for preserving Clinton’s history throughout his career. His service to the community spans five decades, including a decorated military career with the United States Marine Corps and Mississippi Army National Guard, four terms as Alderman, two terms as Hinds County Supervisor, and three terms as Mayor of Clinton from 2013 to 2025.

During the dedication, Mayor Will Purdie spoke on the decision to rename the Depot, reflecting on Mayor Fisher’s lasting impact on the city’s growth, identity, and commitment to creating meaningful public spaces. Former Mayor Fisher also shared the original vision behind the Depot’s location in Olde Towne, describing how its placement between Lions Club Park and the newly dedicated Pillars Park was designed to create a welcoming, connected space for community life.

Adding a personal touch to the day, Mayor Fisher donated a vintage Procter & Gamble train set that served as the centerpiece of the holiday decorations inside the Depot, symbolizing his continued support and affection for the facility he helped bring to life.

The dedication of the Philip R. Fisher Olde Towne Depot stands as a tribute to a leader whose vision, service, and stewardship helped shape the Clinton community for generations to come.
