Ice Storm Safety Update: Emergency Response Protocols in Effect

January 24, 2026

An ice storm is expected to impact Clinton with deteriorating weather conditions creating hazardous travel and dangerous outdoor conditions across the city.

As the storm moves in, 911 operations will shift to emergency triage protocols. This means that calls will be prioritized based on severity and threat to life. Life-threatening emergencies will receive immediate response, while non-emergency calls may experience delayed response times due to weather conditions, call volume, and access limitations.

Residents are strongly urged to stay off the roads and remain at home during the storm. Icy surfaces, downed trees, and potential power lines create dangerous conditions for both the public and emergency responders. Limiting travel helps protect your safety and ensures first responders can reach those facing true emergencies as quickly as possible.

What this means for residents:

Emergency services will prioritize life-threatening situations
Non-emergency response times may be delayed
Road travel may be extremely dangerous or impassable
Staying home reduces risk and preserves emergency access

The City of Clinton asks all residents to take this storm seriously, shelter in place, and avoid unnecessary travel. These measures are critical to protecting lives, preserving emergency access routes, and allowing first responders to operate safely and effectively.

We appreciate the cooperation of our community as public safety agencies work through challenging conditions to protect Clinton residents.

Stay home. Stay safe. Stay informed.
