In the City of Clinton, maintenance and beautification matter. Our public works department keeps our city beautiful and helps citizens find the resources they need to care for their own homes and neighborhoods.
Services:
The City of Clinton will offer a Hazardous Waste disposal day for residents. Public Works leaders have scheduled a hazardous waste disposal opportunity on October 14, 2023. The fall hazardous waste disposal will take place on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at the Public Works Facility at 525 Springridge Road. Disposal will be accepted from 8 am to noon.
Residents are encouraged to dispose of common household chemical waste, such as used motor oil, paint, paint thinners, propane tanks, batteries, aerosols, antifreeze, and insecticides, by bringing it to the facility for proper disposal.
Public Works staff will be on-site to accept different types of hazardous materials.
Other common items of household waste include car batteries, tires, fluorescent bulbs and electronics (computers, printers, TV’s, etc.). Any chemical or article that is designated by the United States Environmental Protection Agency to be “hazardous” will be collected on this day.

Clinton Public Works hosts two citywide cleanups per year. One in the Spring and one in the Fall. Our next citywide cleanup will be held:
October 12 – 19, 2024 (except Sunday, October 13th)
The City of Clinton’s annual Fall Citywide Cleanup will take place October 12 – 19, 2024 (except Sunday, October 13th). During the cleanup period, the City of Clinton will have dumpsters available for residents at the old Northside Elementary School location at 1111 Old Vicksburg Road.
Hours of operation for the City of Clinton’s Fall Cleanup are 8 am to 3 pm. The site will continue to be closed on Sunday. City employees will be present to help residents, as needed.
Residents utilizing the service are asked to line up on Longwood Place in the Briars and turn west on Old Vicksburg Road for disposal. Due to the expense of the program, the Public Works Department will limit the service to residents of Clinton only. Residents utilizing the service will be asked to show proof of residency. Accepted forms of identification include a City of Clinton water/garbage bill, a driver’s license or state-issued ID card with a Clinton address.
The fall cleanup days are a service to Clinton residents who may have items too large to dispose of on their regularly scheduled garbage collection days. Residents can dispose of yard waste, bulky items and other household debris free of charge.
The fall cleanup period does not include e-waste, such as old computers, printers or keyboards, which can often be partially recycled. Refrigerators, freezers and A/C units cannot be accepted due to freon. A separate time for disposal of e-waste and hazardous materials, such as paint and pesticides, will be offered in the fall of 2024.

Yard debris will be collected by Waste Management. Leaves should be bagged and limbs bound in twine.
Limbs and other trimmings should not exceed five feet in length and no greater than eight inches in diameter. Limbs and/or bundled branches may not weigh more than sixty pounds or exceed two cubic yards (size of a refrigerator).
Limbs and debris for collection should be placed curbside next to the trash receptacle. Leaves, limbs and yard debris placed in the gutter are in violation of city ordinance and could result in a fine.
Residents who contract with a tree service or hire an individual for the removal of trees on private property will be responsible for the disposal of such debris.
The City of Clinton offers rubbish removal for rubbish piles no larger than seven feet long and five feet high. Public Works will not be responsible for the disposal of entire trees. You may call to schedule a pickup at 601-924-2239 or fill out of work order form on our website.
Waste Management will not collect solid waste resulting solely from construction, remodeling, repair, or demolition operations on homes, buildings or other structures. This includes roofing materials, landscape materials, tree removal, bricks, concrete, fencing material, etc. The homeowner will be responsible for disposal of such debris.
To make a request for services or to report issues with city infrastructure related to streets, water, sewer, garbage, recycling, mowing, litter, potholes, traffic signals, and other matters, please complete the online form with as much detail as possible. Your submission will be emailed directly to the department head and will be assigned to our work crews for action. Our goal is to communicate back to you regarding the status of your request within a few working days. Thank you for your assistance in making Clinton a great place to live.
In an effort to keep our residents free of mosquito-borne disease, the city of Clinton’s Public Works Department mobilizes resources for prevention and control of mosquitoes, including include public education, habitat modification, use of predators, and, when necessary, application of mosquito larvicides and adulticides specifically evaluated and registered by the EPA for mosquito control.
Free Larvicide Tablets
The Clinton Public Works Department has free Larvicide tablets for treatment of standing water available to Clinton residents. Tablets may be picked up at the Public Works Department at 525 Springridge Road each weekday from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Spraying
The Clinton Public Works Department sprays all 174 miles of the city for species of mosquitoes that carry west nile virus throughout the city. Many residents will not see the spraying due to the hours of operation to make spraying most effective.

Street Maintenance and Paving
For the 2021 Fiscal Year the city budgeted $1,200,000 for paving. Approximately 50 miles of streets have been paved between 2016 -2020. An effective paving program will pave 15 miles of streets each year with a total expenditure of $1,200,000. In coming years, the paving budget will be increased $100,000 per year to meet the paving demand for the city. To view the current paving list, click the links below.
Storm Drains
Public Works crews maintain drainage ways located within the City easements. This maintenance includes repairing sinkholes over drainpipes and along lined ditches, cleaning and preventative maintenance. A certified, bonded contractor conducts herbicide applications for certain improved ditches three (3) times per growing season.
Bridges
There are numerous bridgers and culverts that lie within the city’s limits. The City of Clinton has primary ownership and maintenance responsibility for these bridges and culverts. Inspections are completed each year by the county bridge inspector and the state bridge inspector. Please obey posted weight limits for bridges in the city.
Three bridges are rated as Five (5) ton weight limits. They are:
Bridge over Bakers Creek on Midway Road; and
Bridge over Bogue Chitto Relief on Kickapoo Road; and
Bridge over Bogue Chitto Creek on Cynthia Road
Our city’s street lights are maintained by Entergy Mississippi. To report a street light outage, please contact Entergy directly:
The City of Clinton Department of Public Works provides Clinton, MS residents with sanitary sewage service. A monthly service fee is included in each household’s utility bill and is based on water consumption.
Homeowners are responsible for maintenance and repairs to their home’s sewer laterals or lines. However, if you suspect or experience a sewer blockage, you should report it to the Clinton Public Works office for inspection. We also ask that all residents help us prevent damage to city infrastructure by only disposing of appropriate waste items (human waste and toilet paper).
To report a sewage issue or improper disposal, or to get more information about city services, please contact Clinton Public Works at 601-924-2239.
Clinton Public Works provides regular garbage and recycling pickup to its residents. To find out your neighborhood’s garbage collection day, contact us at 601-924-2239. Collection begins each day at 7am, so we ask that all residents have their cans on their curbs by 7am to ensure pickup.
Garbage pickup will not run on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Years Day. Residents will be updated during these exceptions as to when their route will be rescheduled. Trash pickup will not be rescheduled on any other holidays.
