Board Recognizes Young Residents Who Helped Locate Water Leak
The Clinton Board of Aldermen recognized two young residents Tuesday night for their role in helping City crews locate the source of a water leak that had proven difficult to find.
John David Hales and Zane Joiner were recognized during the September 1 Board meeting after their curiosity and sharp eyes helped bring the City’s search for the mystery leak to an end.
The two friends frequently explore a wooded area in Clinton and were familiar with an old fire hydrant they had passed many times before. On a recent trip through the woods, however, they noticed something different: water was rushing from the hydrant.
John David and Zane told their parents what they had discovered, and their parents contacted the City. Public Works crews were then able to locate the damaged hydrant and identify it as the source of the water loss.
Mayor Will Purdie and the Board of Aldermen recognized the boys for their attentiveness, initiative and willingness to speak up when they noticed something wasn’t right.
What began as an ordinary afternoon of two friends exploring became an opportunity to help their community in a pretty extraordinary way. John David and Zane weren’t looking for recognition or trying to solve a citywide mystery. They simply paid attention, spoke up and helped solve a problem that had crews searching across the city.
Their recognition Tuesday night celebrated more than finding a leak. It celebrated two young Clinton residents whose curiosity and care for their surroundings made a difference in the community they call home.
