2026 – 2027 Mayor’s Youth Council Application

Thank you for your interest in the inaugural Mayor’s Youth Council! Please complete and return this application to Clinton City Hall at 300 Jefferson Street, or visit URL to complete the application online.

Each application must be accompanied with one letter of recommendation (not from a family member), a resume, and long answer question responses. All items must be turned in together. If you have any questions concerning this application, contact Breana Norton at bnorton@clintonms.org. Applications are due by Wednesday, April 22. Late applications will not be considered.

What is MYC?

MYC stands for the Mayor’s Youth Council, a new government focused organization led by the City of Clinton. Students will learn more about local, state, and federal government as well as learn from and network with current officeholders, department heads, and staff.

Who is eligible to apply?

All rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors who live in the Clinton area or attend school within the City of Clinton are eligible to apply. Students who meet the Council’s requirements will be eligible to apply the following year and run for an executive position on the council. Students wishing to apply must fill out an application, submit a resume, recommendation letter, and answer a series of long answer questions.

There is no monetary fee to participate in MYC, but there are specific requirements to be eligible for trip opportunities and to continue serving in MYC multiple years.

2026-2027 Clinton Mayor’s Youth Council Requirements

  1. Students must be at least a rising sophomore and live inside the City of Clinton or attend school in the City of Clinton.
  2. Students must attend one work session as well as one board meeting per school year.
  3. Students must attend monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of the month at 7 am. **The first meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 5, at 5 pm, prior to the Clinton Board of Aldermen meeting. During the Board of Aldermen meeting at 6 pm, the Mayor’s Youth Council will be introduced by Mayor Will Purdie.
  4. Students must participate in at minimum, one City event in the fall and one City event in the spring.
