Large Dog Area at the Bark Park Temporarily Closed

September 9, 2025
The large dog area at the Bark Park is temporarily closed until further notice while the Parks and Recreation Department makes improvements to the drainage system.
After reopening earlier this year, it became clear that water was still seeping in and causing muddy spots. Upon further investigation, our team uncovered old drainage pipes from the former school site, along with additional water lines connected to the fountains. These hidden sources have been contributing to the ongoing issues.
Here’s what’s being done now:
✅ Adding a thick weed cloth and fresh pea gravel to help reduce mud.
✅ Installing protective sleeves on water inlet pipes.
✅ Creating a clearer path for the old pipes to drain properly.
✅ Cleaning and refreshing existing rocks.
✅ Bringing in new rock to reinforce the creek bed.
⚠️ Important Reminder: A portion of the large dog area will always function as a drainage ditch. These improvements will not make it completely dry, but they are designed to minimize standing water and muddy areas as much as possible so the space can remain usable.
🐶 While this work is underway, the small dog area will temporarily serve as the park for both large and small dogs.
📌 Looking ahead, there are plans to redesign the Bark Park, including moving fencing and reworking the layout. This current project is an interim fix until those larger improvements can be implemented.
We’ll reopen the large dog area as soon as possible once the work is complete.
Stay tuned for more updates, and thank you for your patience as we work to make the Bark Park a cleaner, safer place for you and your pups.
