The Clinton Fire Department (CFD) and The Mississippi State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO) are providing free smoke alarms to residents in the City of Clinton.
Smoke alarms are available through the Clinton Fire Department weekdays from 8:00 A.M. – 5 P.M. Residents are asked to call the Clinton Fire Department at 601-925-1010 and speak to Julie Cross or Chris White to schedule an installation.
In order to receive a free smoke alarm, CFD must install the fire alarm while a responsible adult is at the residence. Smoke alarms are only available to owner occupied residences while supplies last.
City of Clinton rental ordinance requires that all rental properties in the city have a smoke alarm installed in all bedrooms. Should a rental property be out of compliance with City Ordinances, tenants are asked to call the Community Development office at 601-924-2256.
Clinton Fire Chief Jeff Blackledge encourages all residents to install smoke alarms in their residences. “Smoke alarms save lives and are a vital part of each home.”
State Fire Marshal Mike Chaney stated “If you don’t have a smoke alarm, get one. You can call your local fire department and ask them to install an alarm in your home.”
The smoke alarms were purchased with grant money from the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The SFMO will train the recipients on installing the alarms, as needed. Residents are asked to call the Clinton Fire Department at 601-925-1010 and speak to Julie Cross or Chris White to schedule an installation.
